Glossary

When you start digging into NOA Portal, you'll probably encounter some unfamiliar terms and phrases along the way. To help you on your journey, we've defined some of the most common vocabulary here in this handy cheat sheet.

Metrics.json

This file is in JSON format and contains billing relevant information of Tenants.

Manifest

A Manifest is written in JSON format. It contains configuration parameters for Services and App packages.

Service

Services are created by the user and contain custom Docker Images that can be deployed on Devices when the user has build App packages containing the Service.

Custom Apps

NOA is an open system. You can create your own custom software and deploy it as a Docker Image on NOA Devices.

Grafana

Software that is deployed in NOA Portal for multiple Use Cases, e.g. creating Panel to visualize data or for creating Alerts.

KEB Communication App

KEB provides NOA Apps for connecting to certain data sources (e.g. OPC UA server). This data will also be transferred to the Cloud.

Fleet Management

This is one Use Case of NOA Portal. Manage Apps of your Devices in the Cloud.

Cloud

The infrastructure of NOA Portal uses Cloud Services. Data that is send to NOA Portal is stored in Cloud Storage. One key difference between NOA Portal and NOA Core is that NOA Portal is worldwide available via the internet.

Apps

Apps are software that are provided as Docker Images to an Edge Device.

Alarming

Send alarms via a channel (e.g. mail or MS Teams) based on detected anomalies of machine data or when a threshold is met.

Condition Monitoring

This is one Use Case of NOA. Monitor the condition of your machines by collecting their data using NOA.

Dynamic Properties

These are key value pairs that you can define for Asset Types. You can then enter information in these for the Assets that have these Asset Types. One Use Case for that is entering Longitude and Latitude to track the location of your Assets.

ISA95 Type

These are standard Asset Types.

Asset Type

Asset Types are used to categorize your Assets, e.g enterprises, sites or machines. It is required that every Asset has an Asset Type.

Asset Tree

Similar to Tenants, Assets are also structured like a tree. When you allocate an Asset to another one, then the allocated Asset will be one level below the selected Asset.

Dashboard

Dashboards are used to visualize information of an Asset. E.g. data of a machine or documents like manuals.

Parent Tenant

Tenants are organized in a tree like structure. Tenants that are on higher hierarchy levels as the respective Tenant are called Parent Tenants.

Asset

Assets are objects of value to a company. These are e.g. machines, equipment or factory buildings.

Device

Devices are Edge Devices. They are logic units (computers, controllers, ...) that have NOA Core installed. Apps are running on those Devices and they transfer data to NOA Portal.

Subtenant

Tenants are organized in a tree like structure. Tenants that are on lower hierarchy levels as the respective Tenant are called Subtenants.

Tenant Tags

Tenant Tags allow you to tag your tenant for better categorization.

Admin

Admins have full access to all features of NOA Portal.

User

User have very limited access within NOA Portal. They are only able to navigate to different parts of NOA using the Tiles on the Hub.

User Menu

The User Menu is placed in the Header. Here you can change User related information (e.g. language) and you can access legal documents (e.g. Imprint).

Options Menu

This is the 'gear' icon in the Header. When you click on it, you can switch to different parts of NOA Portal.

Tenant

Tenants are your home in NOA Portal. This is the separated part of the system that only your company has access to.

The Header is present on every page of NOA Portal. Main elements are the Tenant selection, the Options menu and the User menu.

Hubpage

The Hubpage is the frontpage of NOA Portal. It consists of Tiles.

Tiles

Tiles are the rectangle boxes that you can see on the Hub. Click on a tile to be redirected to a defined URL.

NOA Portal

This is the Cloud component of the NOA platform and what this documentation is focussing on. NOA Portal adds further features to NOA, mainly collecting data in cloud storage, e.g. for analyzing processes or Condition Monitoring & Alarming. Also, you are able to manage Edge Devices via Fleet Management.

NOA Core

This is the software that runs on NOA Devices and provides all the infrastructure that is needed to install Apps or transfer Data to NOA Portal.
